Περιγραφή

The book Lysistrata by Aristophanes is a fresh and engaging retelling of one of the most iconic works of ancient Greek comedy. Combining sharp humor with bold themes, it explores the power of female resistance and the timeless desire for peace in a world ravaged by war.

The story centers on Lysistrata, a woman fed up with endless conflict, who takes action to end hostilities. Under her leadership, the women of Greece unite and swear an oath to withhold sexual relations from their husbands and lovers as leverage to force the men into negotiating lasting peace.

The plan is simple yet radical: through abstinence, the women aim to compel the men to choose diplomacy over continued fighting. However, the struggle tests both sides, creating tension between desire and the urgent need for peace.

This modern retelling highlights the enduring power of satire while addressing serious themes such as war, human relationships, and gender dynamics. With humor, irony, and deeper meaning, “Lysistrata” remains a provocative and timeless classic of Greek drama.

“Of course it’s vulgar. It’s about war.”
