Description

Thucydides is recognized as one of the first true historians. By introducing the method of historical causality—that is, the search for the deeper causes of an event—he was the first to approach history in a scientific manner. He relied extensively on written documents and consulted with people who had participated in or even played leading roles in the events he described.

Thucydides left as his legacy the History of the Peloponnesian War, which at the time was considered a world war. In his narrative, he seeks and analyzes, beyond myths and legends, the true causes of events, the human factor, and the social and economic conditions that shape history.

His texts provide an analysis of both events and the human psychology that shapes and influences them, while also conveying a message of unity for Hellenism, highlighting its height of glory as well as the causes of its decline.

His work is a key to understanding contemporary reality and for seeking appropriate solutions to problems. It has influenced historians and continues to be studied by political scientists, as he is considered the father of political realism, an approach to the study of international relations.

The series, which includes the original ancient text, modern Greek translation, and commentary, consists of 4 volumes.
