Description
A collection of historical testimony and political thought
Discover two of the greatest works of ancient Greek historiography, gathered together in a five-volume collection. Xenophon, a student of Socrates and a military leader, offers us two distinct – yet complementary – portrayals of the character and leadership of Cyrus.
- Anabasis of Cyrus (2 volumes): A captivating historical narrative that recounts the march of the Greek mercenaries — the Ten Thousand — through hostile Persia. Xenophon’s personal testimony brings the reader to the very heart of strategy, leadership, and survival under extreme conditions. A timeless work on human endurance, courage, and ingenuity.
- Cyropaedia (3 volumes): A political and philosophical treatise that narrates the upbringing, education, and rise of Cyrus the Great. Through an idealized narrative, Xenophon presents the model of the ideal ruler, exploring questions of power, ethics, and governance. A work that has inspired leaders and thinkers from antiquity to the modern era.
Through his works, Xenophon highlights the enduring values of education, strategy, and moral responsibility.
Each volume presents the original Ancient Greek text on the left-hand pages, the Modern Greek translation on the right, and includes an introduction and commentary.
